On the 21st April 2015 Google Mobile’s new update which was dubbed ‘Mobilegeddon’ by the technology press – seemed to make little impact during its first week of being rolled out. The Mobilegeddon moniker springs from the fact that Google have changed their mobile app to make websites that are specially-adapted for mobile phones, to appear at the top of their searches.
This new algorithm that Google have introduced to achieve their aims, will leave those businesses, without mobile-friendly websites, potentially left at the bottom of the pile as they seek to promote their services. So far, it has proved to be a little slow but given time, Google expects results to be seen.
Google have previously stated that website owners should check to see if their site is mobile-friendly, so they are able to adapt to the new algorithm. If your site isn’t mobile-friendly, then the best way to avoid your website slipping down the search rankings, is by introducing a mobile website.
The Benefits of A Mobile Website
- Mobile browsers offer different compatibility considerations than desktop browsers – a mobile-optimised website will ensure that everything on your website will load correctly on mobile phones, which they wouldn’t do otherwise.
- A mobile website will increase the conversation rate (the amount who turn from ‘browsers’ into ‘customers’) for those who search for your website on their phone, as their browsing experience will be easier and simpler than it would be on a desktop.
- The load speed of a mobile website will be a lot quicker for people browsing on a phone, as it wouldn’t be trying to convert a website made for a desktop, which turn out to be very slow to load and not guaranteed to work, which will only make a user lose interest.
